If you use Windows 95®, then the AOL software and the Telnet Client that you are using must both
be either 16 bit or 32 bit, or the Telnet function will not work.
If you received your AOL software on a diskette instead of a CD, and have not upgraded it, then it is more than likely 16 bit
software. To find out which version of AOL software you have, click on the top of the screen where it says "about AOL" to display aninformation window. If it says "AOL 3.0 for
Windows®" then it is 16 bit. If it says "AOL 3.0 or 4.0 for Windows 95®" then it is 32 bit.
If the information window shows AOL 3.0i, then you must display the revision
screen by hold down the Control key and typing r. If the revision number starts with 116 then you have a 16 bit version, and if it starts with 132 then you have the 32 bit version.
If you are using
the 16 bit version of AOL software, then you can upgrade it to 32 bit software and use a 32 bit Telnet Client, or you can choose to download and install a 16 bit Telnet client which would be much faster to
accomplish.
To upgrade the AOL software, go to keyword upgrade
and find the prompt to download the latest version of AOL for Windows 95®, Windows 98® or Windows NT®. You can also call AOL and request that they mail you the upgrade software on CD. |
